Around 2017 I was on a bike ride and passed by the house in this first image. I was immediately reminded of "The Pretender" by Jackson Browne. The lyric "I'm gonna rent myself a house in the shade of the freeway..." really resonated with this place. I kept the location in mind and went back to photograph a few weeks later. As time passed I couldn't get this image and the place Cajon Blvd in San Bernardino, CA out of my mind. I had resolved to return and photograph the entire stretch of road (about 5 miles).
In 2023 after being away from the US for over two years, I had a chance to return and photograph the area in more detail. These images are a narrative of that revisit.

31 days in 2021, as the pandemic slowly ground to the point where you could travel again, we walked the Camino Santiago del Norte. Starting in Donostia and following the coast to Ribadeo, then across Galicia to Santiago de Compostela. 800 km more or less in 31 days. It was my wife, my step son, and I. We were known as the "American Family" on the road.
I had determined to photograph our camino in a more documentary gritty style than is typical for this type of work. The images are mostly straight out of the camera (Ricoh GRII) jpgs. I hope these images convey the temporal nature of a long walk.
